Does the skin stretch when massaged?

Are you afraid to massage your face manually, because you think that this way you will quickly stretch the skin? I very often encounter this doubt, especially among people who are just starting their adventure with natural rejuvenation. It's time to debunk this myth once and for all. Massage does not stretch the skin - on the contrary, they will help you maintain its firmness, volume and elasticity longer. 

Where did the myth of stretching the skin with massage come from?

Aging is often associated with less elasticity and sagging skin, which seems to stretch and fall with the direction of gravity as it ages. We see that it is easier to grab our cheek. The jaw line ceases to be so clear, so-called hamsters and a second chin appear.

This is all the result reducing the volume of subcutaneous layers, muscles, and even bone deformities. More clearly, after 25 years, our inner frame, on which the skin rests, begins to shrink. This is caused by m.in loss of collagen fibers that degrade with age. The skin ceases to fit well and begins to fall off. This is not the effect of its mechanical stimulation of the skin, but the changes that occur under it.

Can I stretch my skin naturally?

Natural stretching of the skin is possible, but it's very difficult. The skin is an extremely flexible and elastic organ. It allows us to repeatedly contract and stretch, which allows us to function normally on a daily basis, express our faces and move our heads. 

A perfect example of how difficult it is to constantly stretch the skin is the use of tunnel earrings. The size of the hole in the ear can be increased by just 1 mm every 3 weeks. If the process of stretching the skin was easier,it would definitely be shorter.

Some people will find it easier to stretch their skin, while others will find it harder. It depends on many factors, dysfunction and predisposition. An example is hypermobility, which affects a high level of tissue elasticity. However, most often the skin is stretched due to internal factors, such as weight gain, pregnancy, or lymphedema, which deform the facial features.  

How does natural massage affect your skin?

As we have found, natural massage does not stretch the skin-it is quite the opposite. Regular massaging, kneading, tapping and kneading of the face leads to internal tissue stimulationincluding muscles that become more elastic, so they retain their volume longer. 

Massage strengthens the inner foundation of the face, so the skin rests well on it and fits. The feeling of stretching and sagging disappears, but this is not the only advantage… 

Why massage your face regularly?

  • Massage stimulates the cells responsible for the production of collagen and elastin, maintaining the firmness and elasticity of the skin.
  • They saturate the skin with oxygen, which affects the radiant appearance.
  • They stimulate the production of endorphins, which reduces stress, has analgesic and anxiolytic effects. 
  • They even out the complexion.
  • They stimulate blood and lymph circulation, reducing puffiness on the face. 
  • They relieve headache and sinus pain.
  • They reduce fine lines by filling them in from the inside out.
  • They model the oval of the face. 
  • They increase the absorption of active substances that we apply to the skin in the form of a cream or serum.
  • They have a positive effect on the functioning of the hormonal background.

There is only one rule-facial massage should be performed correctly

When massaging your face, you can use several popular techniques: m.in.:

  • petting - reduces the level of sensitivity in the nerve endings of the skin, which relaxes the nervous system;  
  • stretching - eliminates lymph congestion and swelling, removes hardened muscles and reduces small scars;
  • petrissage - accelerates blood and lymph circulation and stimulates deep sensation receptors;
  • squeezing out - improves blood circulation, saturates the skin with oxygen, which improves its tone;
  • a pat - relaxes and relaxes your muscles, reducing stress and smoothing out fine lines.

Properly performed facial massage will benefit her appearance. Massage under no circumstances does not stretch the skinthey, on the contrary, increase the volume of internal tissues, making the skin elastic and taut longer.
