Two small muscles located near the eyebrows, on their inner side, are responsible for the formation of the „lion's wrinkles” (glabellar lines). These muscles are connected to the skull bone at one attachment and to the skin at the other. When they are in a constant state of contraction, they pull the skin, wrinkling it precisely between the eyebrows. The skin begins to „wave,” and this is when the so-called "lion's wrinkles" form, sometimes they can be so deep that they create strongly defined furrows.
Lion wrinkles are expression lines
This type of wrinkle is classified as an expression line. Daily repeated habits such as excessive frowning due to stress, not wearing sunglasses, vision impairments, and sleeping on your side are the cause of the corrugator muscles remaining in a constant state of contraction. Over time, the muscles lose their elasticity and find it increasingly difficult to return to a relaxed position.
Since the facial muscles are interconnected, the state of one muscle affects the state of the others, and the „lion's wrinkle” is often accompanied by drooping of the upper eyelid, as well as the forehead being pulled downwards in its central part.
The lion's wrinkle is not just an aesthetic facial issue, but also a sign of significant stress accumulated in this part of the face, which can be accompanied by headaches and a feeling of constant tension.
Natural methods such as facial yoga and facial massage help to both get rid of wrinkles and reduce tension caused by stress. Most techniques for working with the forehead area bring immense relief and a feeling of relaxation.
How to get rid of the frown line?
If you want to get rid of your glabellar lines, you must first control the habit of furrowing your brow! If you're furrowing them all day, even exercises and massages won't help much. Also, remember to wear sunglasses and pay attention to your sleeping position. If you sleep on your side, a pillow may be helpful. Bye Bye Wrinkles.
Relax your forehead as often as possible, especially the area between your eyebrows, with circular movements like I'm showing in the video below.
Between the eyebrows is a very important energy point called the „sthapani” marma, which corresponds to the third eye chakra. Massaging this point aids the flow of prana (life force energy), supports clarity of mind, concentration, and brings peace and harmony.
