Special offer: cleaning!

A toxin-free body, strengthened from within, works in harmony with nature. There is always a good time to cleanse your body, and the earlier you start it, the sooner you will feel (and look) better. Learn about specific ways that I have tested to be effective!

Nettle - my secret weapon

For many people, nettle is a roadside weed that burns and causes unpleasant itching. Meanwhile, this popular plant also contains many valuable natural compounds with health-promoting effects. I cannot imagine a detox without nettle, due to its extremely broad spectrum of action and talent for removing toxins from the body. In addition, an infusion of it helps fight acne, strengthens the blood by raising iron levels, is an excellent remedy for lymphatic stasis, stimulates the kidneys to work and is also irreplaceable in the fight against bags under the eyes. An infusion of fresh or dried nettle should be taken three times a day, but not at night due to its diuretic effect.

Green team

Most of my allies in cleansing are green in colour. Green barley, chlorella, spirulina, the aforementioned nettle, plus a host of other herbs. Their super powers are worth testing not only when preparing meals and drinks, but also in home cosmetics. Here is a recipe for my favourite mask, which is given a greenish colour by spirulina. It works sensationally - it brightens the complexion, nourishes, regulates the sebaceous glands, smoothes, reduces wrinkles, has a disinfecting and detoxifying effect.
Here's how to prepare it:
- teaspoon of spirulina
- teaspoon of honey
- a few drops of lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (people with sensitive skin should use this ingredient with caution - it can cause irritation)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Mix all ingredients, apply the mask to a cleansed face, neck and décolleté. Leave on skin for 15 minutes and wash off gently.

Kichery

Those who follow my blog and social media know that I am fascinated by ayurveda. The basis of panchakarma - the Ayurvedic procedure for cleansing the body - is kichery. It is a dish that provides the body with all the important nutrients, that is, proteins, fats and carbohydrates, many vitamins and micro and macro elements. It has properties that help cleanse the body, is easily digestible, stimulates metabolism and improves digestion. During panchakarma, it happens that the patient eats only kichera even for a month or more. I, thanks to this dish in combination with an herbal treatment, recovered from a serious inflammatory bowel condition. To this day, I still eat it at least once a day, and when I feel I need cleansing - as every meal for several days. A huge advantage of this dish is the ease of preparation.
Here are the ingredients and the recipe:
- a heaping tablespoon of clarified butter or 2 tablespoons of grape seed oil
- 2 bay leaves
- flat teaspoon of ground coriander (seeds)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon asafatida
- 1/2 cup dal (mung dal)
- 1/2 cup basmati rice
- 1 cm finely grated fresh ginger
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of Himalayan salt
- 4-5 cups of water

Heat the butter in a heavy-bottomed pot, add all the spices except the asafatida and ginger, sauté for a while to let the aroma go, but be careful not to burn it. Add the pre-washed dal and rice, asafatida, ginger, salt and water. Cover the pot and when it boils, reduce the heat. Cook on low heat for about 35 minutes until the lentils are tender. This dish should be cooked in a non-stick pot to avoid lifting the lid. You can serve with chopped coriander leaves.

Nettle, spirulina mask and kichers are my go-to ways to cleanse my body. Not the only ones, of course, but certainly some of my favourites, because they are effective and enjoyable at the same time. Moreover, ones that you can easily incorporate into your daily habits of taking care of yourself from the inside and out. I also recommend another blog post in which I have put together what I consider to be the most important principles of an effective detox: here.
