Sleep Wrinkles

Sleeping wrinkles? They don't have to keep you up at night! Is sleep the best way to a rested, youthful complexion? Turns out it's not really!

When you sleep, your face presses against the pillow, causing your skin to fold, crease, and stretch, leading to wrinkles known as sleep lines. Any vertical lines on your cheeks, forehead, around your eyes or chin, as well as on your décolletage, are precisely sleep lines! Find out what you can do to win (the previously unequal battle) against wrinkles that form during sleep. I am happy to share proven methods!

Sleep wrinkles – where do they come from?

There are different types of wrinkles: expression lines, sun-induced wrinkles, gravity lines, and sleep lines. This last type is not as widely discussed as the others, and many people aren't even aware of its existence. Sleep lines can be recognised by the fact that they are particularly apparent upon waking as vertical lines, more pronounced nasolabial folds, or facial asymmetry. The pressure caused by your sleeping position not only wrinkles and creases the skin but also hinders lymph circulation and causes swelling. Sleep lines are a problem that affects not only the face but also the décolletage and neck – for women who sleep on their sides and stomachs, unattractive vertical lines appear on these areas sooner. In young people, these disappear during the day, but with age, they begin to become permanently etched, eventually turning into deep wrinkles.

Action – activation

From my perspective, boosting collagen synthesis is key in the fight against wrinkles (in general, not just sleep lines). This is supported not only by facial yoga, which I advocate, but also by massages – try it, and the results will delight you sooner than you expect. Tensing and relaxing facial muscles will allow for better oxygenation and stimulate the tissue for natural regenerative processes. The skin will be better supplied with blood, and fibroblasts will be stimulated to produce collagen.

Look after your skin in harmony with nature

If you use cosmetics, choose those containing C and E, as well as UV filters, to „neutralise” free radicals. Take an interest in handmade skincare products and opt for natural active ingredients. Also, ensure your diet is rich in the highest quality products, full of vitamins and nutrients, and maintain your body's hydration – this is the natural path to healthy, youthful skin without wrinkles.

Night-time cosmetics? No, thank you…

I've already written about nighttime rituals, or rather, limiting them to a minimum, in the blog post titled. „Natural rejuvenation, my way…”. I explained that I was trying to ensure she had the opportunity to fully rest and recover. During sleep, the skin doesn't have to protect itself from harmful environmental influences, nor do I overload it excessively with cosmetics – I focus on nature.
