Do you feel like as you get older your gaze has lost its former luster, you constantly look sleep-deprived and you want to finally do something about it? The truth is that changes in the eye area affect the appearance of the whole face. They immediately show fatigue, but can also make us look older than we are. The causes of puffiness and bruising under the eyes can be many. Sometimes it is a genetic tendency and sometimes it is an incorrect lifestyle, little sleep or the result of stress.
I've developed the perfect routine to help you refresh your look, reduce under-eye bags and gently brighten dark circles in any situation. Do you want to know it? I invite you to read on!
Where do bags under the eyes, puffiness and dark circles come from?
As I mentioned above - the causes of bags under the eyes and puffiness there may be many. If you have rarely seen them on your face over the years, but now they are so prominent that you find it difficult to take your eyes off them - benefit from a preventive examination.
Perhaps the cause of the swelling and dark circles is a specific deficiency or some condition that is just beginning to make itself known. This could be related, for example, to liver malfunction, thyroid or kidney disorders, lymphadenitis, diseased sinuses, circulatory failure, parasite infection, ringworm. It is worth considering a visit to your doctor in this case, who may order blood tests to check levels of key vitamins and minerals. If your body is not getting the right dose of nutrients, it can manifest itself in just such subtle yet persistent ways.
Bruising and puffiness under the eyes can be the result of a deficiency of vitamin K, vitamin C, iron or zinc.
Other causes that can lead to puffiness under the eyes
Genetics
An inheritance of thin skin in the eye area or a tendency to retain water in the body are factors that can cause these problems to become apparent. If your mum struggled with bags under her eyes, there is a good chance that you too will have this problem.
Ageing
As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and natural firmness. The skin under the eyes becomes thinner and fatty tissues can move, resulting in bags. In addition, the ageing process weakens circulation, which can cause fluid to accumulate under the eyes.
Low levels of body hydration
When the body does not receive enough water, the skin becomes less elastic and more prone to bruising and swelling. Dehydration also leads to water retention in the body, which can cause swelling, especially in such a delicate area as the eye area.
Time zone change
A sudden change of time zone, especially when travelling, can disrupt the body's diurnal rhythm, which often manifests itself in fatigue, resulting in puffiness and dark circles under the eyes. This condition may persist for several days before the body adjusts to the new rhythm.
Sleep deprivation
It's obvious that not getting enough sleep affects our appearance. When we don't sleep long enough, our body doesn't have time to fully regenerate. The skin becomes pale and the blood vessels under the eyes more visible, leading to bruising.
Remember that sleep is the best possible cosmetic - taking care of the quality of your sleep is the key to a youthful appearance.
Stress
Long-term stress takes its toll on the entire body, including the appearance of our face. Stress hormones can cause fluid retention. They also reduce the skin's ability to regenerate, which often manifests itself through bruising and puffiness under the eyes.
Working in front of a computer and prolonged exposure to blue light
Do you spend long hours in front of a computer screen, smartphone or tablet? This can also lead to eye fatigue, which manifests itself not only in burning and dryness, but also in puffiness and dark circles under the eyes.
The blue light emitted by screens dilates the blood vessels around the eyes, which can lead to their conspicuousness and worsen bruising. In addition, intensive work in front of a computer is often associated with a reduced quality of sleep, which further exacerbates these symptoms.
It is a good idea to avoid exposure to blue light at least 2 h before bedtime.
Inappropriate diet
In addition, poor diet, excess dairy and salt can contribute to puffiness under the eyes.
Salt causes water retention in the body, leading to swelling, especially in delicate areas such as the eyelids. Similarly, excess dairy has a similar effect, which can promote fluid accumulation, causing swelling.
Another issue is eating just before bedtime, which also puts strain on the body, which does not have enough time to fully recover. This in turn often manifests itself in morning swelling.
Want to get rid of bags under your eyes? Start by improving your lifestyle
Want to get rid of bags under your eyes? As well as introducing massages and exercises into your routine, which I'll talk about later, I want to encourage you to lifestyle improvements. Sometimes a few simple changes are all it takes to notice a significant difference in the appearance of the skin around the eyes.
Introduce a diet that promotes beautiful skin
Diet plays a key role in the fight against under-eye puffiness. Incorporate antioxidant-rich foods into your menu and vitamins C and E, which promote skin regeneration and improve blood circulation.
Their excellent sources are citrus, berries, nuts, spinach and peppers. In contrast, avoiding excessive salt in the diet will help to reduce water retention in the body, which often leads to swelling.
Remember to stay hydrated too - by drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day, you are supporting your body's natural detoxification processes, which translates into healthier looking skin.
Take good care of the skin around your eyes
The skin around the eyes is extremely delicate and requires special attention. Choose creams and serums that contain caffeine, retinol and hyaluronic acid - these active ingredients improve circulation, smooth fine lines and hydrate the skin, reducing the appearance of bags under the eyes.
It is also worth using natural methods, e.g. cold compresses, homemade cucumber masks or chamomile compresses, which have a soothing effect and reduce swelling.

Ensure deeper, quality sleep
A good night's sleep is the basis for a healthy and youthful appearance. Take care of your sleep hygiene, Try to go to bed and wake up at regular times. The optimum length of sleep is at least 7-8 hours a night - this is when the skin regenerates best.
The position in which you sleep is also important. Avoid sleeping on your stomach, as this position can encourage fluid build-up around the eyes, leading to swelling. Instead, try sleeping on your back or use special Bye Bye Wrinkles Yoga Beauty cushions, which takes care of the correct positioning of the face during sleep, facilitating lymph drainage and reducing the risk of morning swelling as much as possible.
Reduction of puffiness and bags under the eyes with Gua-Sha
Before each eye area massage, cleanse the skin and apply a suitable oil, e.g. Citrus Glow oil.
- Start by stimulating the lymph nodes:
- Make a few circular movements in the collarbone area,
- Then go under the ears and to the sides of the face,
- Make a similar circular motion on the temples and cheeks,
- In addition, form hooks from your fingers and run them up the jaw a few times.
- Then move on to working with the Gua-Sha stone:
- Place the longer edge of the stone against your eyebrows and move it from the centre to the outer part of your face,
- then go to the bottom and also move the longer edge of the stone from the centre outwards,
- The pressure should be intense, but not too strong,
- then direct the displaced lymph downwards into the main lymphatic vessels.

A natural way to treat under-eye bruises
Are you looking for a natural way to reduction of under-eye bruises? Your best bet is to try a few home methods and see which works best for you. One of the simplest and most popular ways is to use cold compresses - just apply cold teaspoons, green tea bags, green cucumber pulp or fresh potato for a few minutes. The cold constricts the blood vessels, which helps to reduce bruising and puffiness. Another natural remedy is Almond oil massage, which moisturises the delicate skin and improves microcirculation, which can help reduce dark circles.
My recipe for a massage that lightens under-eye bruises
- Begin by gently massaging with two fingers the outer area of the window, at the edge of the eye socket. We make circular movements. This can take about one minute.
- Then move to the central area under the eyes and repeat the massage.
- We then move to the inner side of the eye and the area around the lacrimal gland. This massage relaxes the tension on the entire muscle.
